Home for sale in Lehighton, PA

A new listing I'm marketing is a 2 story single in Lehighton, PA. It has 3 bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms. As I came into the home I noticed the warmth of the original woodwork in the living room and dining room.  The galley kitchen is clean and convenient.  The 1/2 bath is off the dining room tucked between the kitchen and staircase.

On the second floor are two bedrooms, the walk in closet and main bath.  Some of my favorite features of this house are on this floor.  The bathroom is spacious and the skylight adds warth and light.  You can walk from the batroom to the master bedroom through the walk in (through) closet. This closet has plenty of space to keep the wrinkles out of all your clothes.

The final bedroom is 11 x 20 and on the third floor.

Listed Price: $145,000
MLS# 10-1203

house for sale in Jim Thorpe

My newest listing is this modestly priced home in Jim Thorpe, PA. At $69,000, 18 River Street is situated just on the east side of the Lehigh River. Here, you have the benefits of affordability and location.

On the end of a row,  this home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen, den, 2 decks, off street parking and a nice yard. The home sits just above the Lehigh River and across the river you can watch the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway touring the State Park. The covered decks are off the main level and lower level. Both face west toward the river and railway and have access to the yard.

At a purchase price of $69,000 your monthly payment can be as low as $400.00 per month. Add your taxes and insurance and you could own your own home for less than $600 a month. If you purchase before April 30th you also may qualify for up to a $6,900.00 tax credit.

Proximity to historic Broadway, Jim Thorpe isn't the only location advantage. If you're an outdoor enthusiast Lehigh River Gorge State Park is close by. The gorge is home to trails for biking, hiking, walking, canoeing, rafting and more. Jim Thorpe is only 5 miles from PA turnpike extension 74 which provides quick and easy access to the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia.

Mount Pisgah & Mauch Chunk: Live Where you Love to Play

Jim Thorpe is the seat of Carbon County. I simply love this area, a rich history and a beautiful place to live and play. This is a shot looking down from the Mt Pisgah Plane into downtown Jim Thorpe. You can see St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on the right.

When you reflect on the importance of this area in fueling America’s industrial revolution, on the backs and ingenuity of Josiah White, Erskine Hazard and later, Asa Packer, you learn to appreciate it even more.

One amazing piece of our history is The Switchback Railroad.  It was one of a kind! Not only was it key in delivering coal, but it also became our nation’s second biggest tourist attraction behind Niagara Falls. President Ulysses S Grant and Thomas Edison were said to traveled here to ride it! Today, expert mountain bikers ride it for some of the same thrills as years ago.
Empty coal cars were pulled up the Mt Pisgah plane.  Cresting the top, they would traverse this trestle as they began their descent down the other side to reach the base of Mt. Jefferson at Summit Hill.  Here they were loaded with coal, pulled to the top of Mt Jefferson, and sent down the eight mile gravity journey to Mauch Chunk. There, coal was sent down chutes over what is today Route 209, and filled the awaiting Canal Boats on the Lehigh Canal. Later, Packer’s Lehigh Valley Railroad took over the bulk of the coal transport.

Selling Real Estate in Carbon County

I've been selling real estate in Carbon County for a few years. I took my classes and got my license in 1997, worked part time for Gene Durigan Real Estate until 2000 and decided to put my license in escrow.  It was hard having 2 children, another full time job and trying to establish relationships with clients. So 5 years later, in 2005 I renewed my license. Well now my boys were 18 and 12 so that was much easier. I still had another job - but only part time so that made it easier, and the real estate market was booming; again - easier.  But really, it was still hard. So finally, in 2007 I took the leap and came full time to real estate at Gene Durigan Real Estate.

Now,part of my time is spent as the assistant to the Broker, Gail A. Christman. And a lot of time is spent cultivating relationships with clients, studying the local market, networking, showing properties, completing paperwork, and so much more.  My office is in Lehighton but Gene Durigan Real Estate also has office in Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua. I consider my area to be all of Carbon County and parts of Schuylkill, Lehigh and Northampton Counties.  I love the area I live and work in and I get excited everytime I get the chance to introduce it to someone new.
